The SMH reports:
"Yesterday the Prime Minister met with business leaders - including Don Argus from BHP, Oscar Groeneveld from Rio Tinto Aluminium and Colin Beckett from Chevron Oil - to discuss emissions trading. It appears scientists, energy experts and environmentalists will not be consulted although they have been long-term supporters of such a global scheme."
Yeah why bother consulting scientists, energy experts and environmentalists about a carbon trading scheme? Let's instead ask only those companies which may have a vested interest in doing as little as they can about emissions.
Absolutely true, but oddly enough many of them are dying to get into the carbon trading scheme and annoyed with our government for making them ineligible...

I do understand there is quite some money to be made in the carbon trading game these days. but why oh why is the Australian government trying to convince the rest of the world to do it our way, when a scheme already exists? Admittedly, the current scheme doesn't seem very good at actually reducing carbon emissions, but I'm not sure the Australian scheme would be either.
